RIP Michael Jackson

June 27, 2009 By: houkah Category: Music

Michael Jackson pre surgeryRest in peace to the King of Pop.  You might ask yourself why did i choose this picture of Michael Jackson for this post? Well, 100 years from now do you really think people are going to talk about the weird plastic surgery, or the child molestation trials?  No, the only thing they’ll be discussing (hopefully) is the music, and rest assured his music will still be around 100 years from now.  This is a musician that has written some of the most memorable songs in pop history (thriller, beat it, or my personal favorites Smooth Criminal, and Billie Jean).

The Death of Talent

June 22, 2009 By: houkah Category: Music

Lately i’ve been noticing an overuse of a little voice synthesis software known as auto-tune.  The first time i had heard this was on a song by Cher.  It has since become completely ubiquitous in modern music.  Especially amongst people who can’t sing.  I’m looking at you Kanye.

Love to Hate: Metal Gear Solid

June 18, 2009 By: houkah Category: Videogames

metal gear solidThis is going to be a recurring segment where i talk about franchises i absolutely hate that other people love. First up? Metal Gear Solid. You know there was a time i loved Metal Gear. The first MGS on the playstation was fantastic. That’s why i chose it to be the image for this post. However, it should have been a clue to the direction things were going.

Fake is the New Real

June 17, 2009 By: houkah Category: Uncategorized

30’s the new 20, 40’s the new 30. I absolutely hate it when people say shit like this. Anybody who spouts off some bullshit line like 40 is the new 30 is either a) trying to make you feel better about turning 40 or is b) trying to fool themselves because they themselves are 40.

iPhone 3GS

June 16, 2009 By: houkah Category: Computers

What is the biggest new feature of the iPhone 3GS?  That is correct, video recording/editing.  Now, on the off chance that anyone out there thinks this is ‘awesome’, realize that this ability already exists in the iPhone.  Simply jailbreak your iPhone and you have access to several different video recorders.  That’s right people, the ability to shoot video exists in the iPhone already.  All Apple did was turn it on via software.  Here’s one

WWDC Impressions

June 09, 2009 By: houkah Category: Computers

What a great 2 weeks its been. E3, the launch of the Palm Pre, and WWDC have now come and gone. I can’t say much about the Pre (since i don’t own one), except that it looks awesome, and does a lot of the things i wish my iPhone did. However, i did follow WWDC hoping to glean some new information on the direction of Apple. Here’s what i found out.

E3 Sony

June 03, 2009 By: houkah Category: Videogames

This could very well be called a make or break year for sony. After all they’ve been posting pretty hefty losses, and are in last place when it comes to console sales. So it could be argued that they needed to knock one out of the park with their e3 presentation. So what’s the best thing to start with? That’s right…. playstation 2. Ha! I kid.

E3 Nintendo

June 03, 2009 By: houkah Category: Videogames

Nintendo has morphed from a game company into some sort of bastardized combination of Apple, a game company, and a fitness company. So how did they fare at E3? Did they return to their gaming roots?

E3 Microsoft

June 02, 2009 By: houkah Category: Videogames

I make no bones about it. So far this console generation, the xbox 360 is my favorite console. However, up until now there has been very little information coming out of Microsoft. Meanwhile the Playstation 3 has announced or released several high caliber games like god of war 3, inFamous, and Killzone2.  So it was with quite a bit of curiosity that i watched Microsofts e3 press conference.
