Green with hypocrisy

Green is the new green. Companies everywhere are now latching onto the green bandwagon, as consumers become more and more conscious of the state of the planet. However, just like the breast cancer pink ribbon before it, is this new green movement in business just another way to cash in on public opinion?
Look at advertisements for the oil and coal industry. Both talk about clean renewable energy research spearheaded by the largest polluting corporations. Currently companies such as GE are launching new green initiatives. You also have the exxon mobils and BP’s of the world talking about their push into renewable energy. It certainly is stylish to be green.
Lets not forget the celebrities. All jetting around the globe (using tons of jet fuel, and a carbon footprint to make a texas oilman jealous) to go to ‘green’ fundraisers and rallies. Hell, remember ‘inconvenient truth’? How many shots were there of Al Gore on a jet working on his presentation?
That’s the real inconvenient truth. When even ‘green’ zealots are hypocrites about everything, how can they expect normal everyday people to follow suit? I fully believe if they discovered television remote controls and cell phones were the root cause of global warming, nobody would stop using those things. The general population only cares about being ‘green’ so long as it doesn’t affect their lives. And corporations only care about it so long as it helps them sell their next product.
