Insuring a Warm Spot in Hell

July 02, 2009 By: houkah Category: Uncategorized

insuranceLet us take a moment to consider the way the insurance industry works.  You and I pay a small (or sometimes large) sum monthly for some peace of mind.  This might be flood insurance, home owners insurance, auto insurance, or the mac-daddy of them all, health insurance.  Let us take a moment to look at the basics of how insurance operates shall we?

You pay a monthly fee for the peace of mind that when you need a large chunk of money because you had say… flood damage, you can get it.  In the case of health insurance you pay monthly so that on the off change you get really sick the insurance company will cover somewhere in the 80 - 90% range of your medical costs.  What really happens though?

You get sick, the insurance company says you’re covered.  Then they retroactively look for any possible way to drop you from their coverage.  So while you’re dutifully paying and holding down your end of this agreement, they are looking for any possible way to weasel out of theirs.  None of this is even kept hush hush, they do this all out in the light of day.  They also make obscene amounts of money, and spend more trying to weasel out of paying for their share than they do actually paying out.  Altogether now, ‘Fuck you insurance industry.’  Fucking scumbags.
