E3 Sony
This could very well be called a make or break year for sony. After all they’ve been posting pretty hefty losses, and are in last place when it comes to console sales. So it could be argued that they needed to knock one out of the park with their e3 presentation. So what’s the best thing to start with? That’s right…. playstation 2. Ha! I kid.
They did start with the playstation 2, and re-affirmed that they will continue to support it, lending credence to the 10 year product cycles they love to talk about. After the ps2 they talked quite a bit about the new PSP the PSP go, stressing that it does not replace the other PSPs, it’s simply for people with the ‘digital’ lifestyle…. whatever that means. On to the PS3.
Games games games. That can sum up Sony’s segment on the ps3. They announced God of War 3 (which looked great and releases in March of 2010), Agent (an exclusive game from Rockstar North, that focuses on 70s style espionage), Final Fantasy 14 (! Which looks to be an MMO), MAG (a 256 person shooter), Uncharted 2 (the sequel to my favorite ps3 game), and Last Guardian (Which is the new, and absolutely gorgeous, game from Team ICO). In terms of exclusive games sony probably trumped everyone. Granted the only real surprises were Agent and FF14. But then again all the big 3 only had 1 or 2 major surprises in terms of games.
Sony also unveiled their motion controller. Hmmm i seem to recall sony talking about the sixaxis as a motion controller back when they announced it. Remember the whole ‘rumble is so last gen, motion control is this gen.’ I guess what they meant to say is ‘getting sued is so last gen. Lying to our customers is this gen.’ Now their motion controller is a wand and video camera combination. I actually thought the wand looked like a dildo, but as the demo went on they started doing some really cool things. I particularly liked the painting and interacting with objects demo’s.
All in all i feel Sony did a fantastic job. I’m not a big fan of the PSP so i glossed over the Go, but it does look nice. Also a Metal Gear Solid is coming out for the PSP, and we all know how much Sony fanboys like to suck Hideo Kojima’s dick, so i’m sure that’s a big deal to them. But i digress…. Good job sony! Perhaps 2009 really IS the year of the PS3.

A review site with a slightly negative bent. In other words, we love to hate.
